How it works
Modelo MCP, for Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and any agent that speaks MCP
Connect
Modelo is a remote MCP server with sign-in. Add this address where your assistant keeps its connectors; the names move around, but the step is the same everywhere.
Claude. Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Paste the address and click Connect.
ChatGPT. Settings, then Apps and connectors, then Create. Paste the address, pick OAuth as the sign-in, save and connect.
Grok and other clients. Add a custom connector or MCP server by URL with the same address. Any client that follows the MCP authorization flow works.
Approve
Modelo asks you to sign in, or to create an account if you are new. It then shows who is asking and lets you tick the workspaces the assistant may use: your household, your business, or both. Approve, and you are back in the chat.
- The assistant receives a key that works only at this address. It never sees your Modelo password, your Supabase or any other token.
- A workspace in your own Supabase project asks for a one-time code sent to your email, the same way the app signs you in there.
- You can connect more workspaces later by approving again.
What the assistant can do
Every tool runs as you, in one approved workspace, with the same row-level security as the app. Amounts come back in the workspace’s base currency; negative means money out; internal transfers are already excluded from income and spending.
| Tool | Answers |
|---|---|
| list_workspaces | The workspaces you approved. |
| get_overview | Members, accounts with balances, the category tree, the date range of your data. |
| period_summary | How a period went and what changed against the one before. |
| cashflow, pnl, breakdown | Month by month, by category, by any dimension. |
| category_detail | One category over time, with its merchants. |
| counterparties, recurring | Vendors and clients, subscriptions and regular payments. |
| search_transactions, get_transaction | Rows by text, type, category, tag, period, account or amount. |
| net_worth, investments, crypto | Positions, set-aside, wallets, with history. |
| data_quality, list_categories, list_rules, list_imports | What to fix, what you have, what you uploaded. |
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| import_transactions | Imports rows your assistant read from a statement. Checks every row, skips duplicates, applies your rules, finds transfers. Preview first with a dry run. |
| create_account, update_account | A new bank, card, wallet or investment account; rename or recolour one. |
| update_transaction | Category (and learn it for the merchant), type, tags, notes, or unlink a transfer pair. |
| create_category, update_category, move_category | Your category tree. |
| create_rule, update_rule | Categorization rules, including switching one off. |
| rename_merchant, rerun_rules | A merchant’s display name everywhere; re-run rules over rows you did not set by hand. |
Nothing deletes. No tool removes a transaction, import, account, category, rule, wallet or workspace. Billing, members, Supabase connections and settings stay in the app.
Plans and credits
The MCP spends no Modelo credits: the assistant does the thinking on its own plan, and Modelo answers with figures. A free account can connect its demo workspace. A workspace in your own Supabase project, where your real data lives, needs a paid plan, as in the app.
Limits
- 60 tool calls a minute per person, and smaller limits per tool.
- Imports take up to 2,000 rows per call and 20 imports a day.
- Every call is logged with the assistant’s name. Keys expire and are rotated by the assistant.
Disconnect
Remove the connector in your assistant, or revoke it in Modelo’s settings. The key stops working at once. Nothing of yours is copied out of Modelo by connecting.
